Infrared Thermography
Commonly used for both Mechanical and Electrical applications, Thermography is one of the most diverse and
widely accepted CBM technologies on the market today and can be an important tool to deploy in your journey to Reliability Excellence and Maintenance Excellence. Applications include PdM, Non-Destructive Testing, and Research and Development.
Thermography has the capability of having an integral role when it comes to evaluating and identifying energy efficiency opportunities. Integrating Thermography into routine energy audits such as; Heat Loss Surveys, Piping Insulation Surveys, Building Envelope, Steam System Analysis, and such will enable your energy management team to identify defects leading to increased energy consumption.
Why?
When used in conjunction with other CBM technologies, Thermography can help enable the Proactive Work Flow Model by identifying defects in advance. Corrective work can then be planned and scheduled, generating higher reliability gains. Common failures that Thermography detects:
Mechanical Anomalies due to Friction
- Bearing and Couplings defects
- Seals issues
- Barrier System failures
- Alignment issues
- Heat Dissipation
- Lubrication Issues
Electrical Anomalies
- High Resistance Connections
- Faulty Fuse Clips
- Loose Connections
- Faulty Transformer Bushings
Energy Efficiency Related
- Heat Exchanger issues
- Boiler inefficiences
- Steam Trap failures
- Refractory degradation
- Insultation failures
- Building Envelope defects
